Want all the latest Facebook news? You’ve come to the right place. We’ve collected the upcoming changes to the social media giant here, with information about new features, updates to the algorithm and more.
As always, Facebook is looking to improve what content gets shown to its users, which often is a pain for anyone who wants to do anything organic on the platform. Here’s what’s new:
The iOS 14 update has kicked in, and now users need to opt-in to third party advertising on apps like Facebook. This has the potential to have a huge effect on your Facebook ads – read our blog all about this to find out how to mitigate it.
Facebook are making pushes to improve data portability between platforms, and you can now export your Facebook posts and notes directly to Google Docs, Blogger and WordPress.com. You can already export photos to Dropbox and Google Photos too, if you didn’t already know.
Much like on Instagram, where you can follow certain tags and get content appearing in your feed from users you don’t follow, Facebook are planning on introducing Suggested Topics to your News Feed. For example, if you wanted to see more posts about Marvel comics, you could choose to follow that topic, and Facebook will pull posts and videos about Marvel comics in from pages you may not already follow into your feed on a more regular basis.
If you prefer to use Facebook to keep on top of the latest news or to find out more about your favourite hobbies, this could be a good move, and it’ll be a great update for pages, giving them the potential for greater exposure and engagement. It’s also a sneaky way for Facebook to improve their ad targeting once they can’t rely on third-party cookies as easily.
Have you seen a little ‘Related’ pop up just above the comments in your News Feed? This means that the post has been shared into a group, so you can see how people in that group are talking about it. However, Facebook has now opened this up even wider, so you can see what anyone who’s publicly shared the post has said. So it’ll either lead to better context and engagement, or just give people an opportunity to argue.
If you use Facebook’s Business Suite app on your phone, you now have the ability to schedule Facebook and Instagram Stories – something that’s been sorely lacking from Facebook’s suite of scheduling tools.
Craving more advertising options? You’re in luck! Facebook has now introduced a ‘Call Now’ button you can add to your adverts, and a new Conversion Leads goal for lead generations ads, so you’re more likely to reach people who will fill in your form, as opposed to just letting it pass by.
