Why the myth of ‘if you build it, they will come’ needs to stop

So, you’ve got a fantastic new website, and you’re ready to start selling. Surely, thanks to this amazing new digital presence, the traffic will just start rolling in, right? You couldn’t be more wrong. Here’s why you need paid social to kick-start your selling process.

We all know the classic Costner quote from Field of Dreams – “if you build it, they will come.” In our time, we’ve found it’s a common misconception that a lot of businesses have come to believe in whenever they get a brand-new website. Having spent all the time, effort and budget on creating the website, they often forget about the hard work it takes to build and maintain a digital presence, so we’ve put together some advice about what to do when you launch your shiny new site to the world.

SEO is a long game

You might have done your research, got your keywords in order and added plenty of fresh content to your website, but good SEO takes a while to bed in. Depending on how quickly Google crawls your site, it can take several months for your efforts to truly take hold – so unless your website was already king of the search page, it can take some time to ensure you get the rankings you deserve.

Organic social’s on the out

After your website’s launched and you’ve emailed your existing clients to tell them the good news, the next place you’ll no doubt turn to is your own social media channels. There are two problems with this. First, you’re still only telling your existing clients (who may or may not already be on your mailing list) about the new site. Second, organic reach has been steadily dropping on all the major social networks in favour of paid adverts.

No matter how many people share your post about your new creation, the likelihood is that it’s just going to bounce around the echo chamber and won’t actually reach any new customers.

If a tree falls in the woods…

You know the old adage – if a tree falls in the woods and nobody’s around to hear it, did it really fall? We feel the same about websites. If a website launches without a comprehensive digital marketing plan, did it really launch?

If you want to shout about your latest creation, we can help you put together stunning, cleverly worded campaigns that are sure to get people clicking. Whether you want to advertise on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram or Snapchat, have a chat to our team today to find out how we can make your website the talk of the town.
